As supply disruptions have trickled down the food chain, Washington growers say that a key sector being left out of USDA’s CFAP program.
Apples, berries and potatoes make up a large portion of Washington’s ag portfolio and as sales have dropped, specialty crop growers are calling for financial assistance during the crisis.
“The entire state of Washington has specialty crop growers, when I tell you this you’re going to think I’m pulling your leg, but 22 specialty crops growers have received payment. Of all specialty crops,” U.S. Apple Association President Jim Bair said.
