Ukrainian dam explosion may have devastating ag impacts

Russia has been accused of blowing up a hydroelectric dam in Ukraine and the natural disaster may have a devastating impact on agriculture.

The primary purpose of the dam, other than to supply power, was to feed irrigation systems in four Ukrainian regions.

One analyst is already predicting 150,000 to 500,000 metric tons in crop losses due to flooding. Five silos that are able to hold more than 100,000 metric tons of grain are also close to the disaster and may now be flooded or damaged.

As of now, it is impossible to assess the extent of damage accurately as Russia has control of the area.
