The governor of Kansas is asking USDA for fairer disaster compensation.
Cattle producers are still recovering from last month’s devastating wildfires. Governor Laura Kelly says that reimbursement rates are not reasonable, since prices have gone up.
She says that it costs $17,000 dollars to replace a mile of fencing, and USDA is only paying out $12,000 dollars. Gov. Kelly says that things are different now and changes to the disaster program are needed.
That recovery was top of mind for Kansas Farm Bureau members, as they attended the annual convention in Atlanta.
