USDA approves $233 million for farmers impacted by Hurricane Helene

Help is on the way for farmers and ranchers impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says USDA has paid out $233 million so far to states impacted by the storm. It is part of the Hurricane Insurance Protection Wind Index, which started back in 2020. Vilsack says USDA will continue to help farmers and ranchers through the recovery process.

Under the plan, Georgia will get $208 million, Florida will get $13 million, and Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia will each get $5 million or less.

Approved insurance providers now have 30 days to get those funds to producers.
