USDA is setting out an unique adventure to help protect the livestock industry from that pest. They are releasing male flies that are sterile, aiming to decrease the population.
“The funding is to expand the number of flies. We’re currently pretty about 90 million flies a week and that’s really increased the production of flies increase the dispersal and the range of dispersal of flies,” said Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Moffitt.
The project is costly, up to $165 million. The money will come from the Commodity Credit Corportation and is paired with money spent earlier in the year.
