WASDE Worries: Why agronomists are eager to see what it could show for U.S. exports

Agronomists are keeping their eyes peeled for tomorrow’s WASDE report. They anticipate lower demand and are worried about exports, ethanol, and feed usage.

An agronomist with AgriSompo says corn exports to China are down significantly from the last couple of years. However, USDA Economist Bart Kenner says numbers for ag trade continue to show higher exports and imports.

“Agricultural exports through November were $179 billion, up 12 percent. Agricultural imports are $182.3 billion, up 17 percent. The entire year so far has been the highest on record.”

Depending on what the report shows for the month of December, USDA says we are running an ag trade deficit of a little more than $3 billion.
