As lawmakers look ahead to next year, ag groups are still holding hope for some kind of temporary relief this year. The National Association of Wheat Growers says they have been working nonstop to get an aid package.
“I’ve literally been on the phone four or five nights over the weekend up until 10:00 at night, talking to both the House and Senate Agriculture Committee of trying to bring some type of economic relief package to the farm bill extension. That’ll have to be attached to the only must-pass bill that we still have left, which is the continuing resolution to fund the government,” said Chandler Goule.
Lawmakers have until next Friday to get government spending bills wrapped up, or face a government shutdown.
