You Butter Believe It! Butter consumption has hit an all-time high

Butter consumption in the United States has hit an all-time high.

Wisconsin’s Alice in Dairyland says her state makes the best there is.

“Butter is made from simple ingredients, just cream, and salt, and if you’re buying unsalted butter, it is just 100 percent Wisconsin dairy. Our dairy cows make sure we have plenty of cream available to keep Wisconsin’s 13 butter processing plants busy, making Wisconsin one of the top two butter-producing states. All this butter finds its way to the grocery store shelves around the country, with the average American consuming six-and-a-half pounds of butter each year,” said Halei Heinzel.

Butter is big business in the dairy capitol, adding value to the state’s more than $50 billion dairy industry. 99 percent of dairy farms in the state are family-owned.
