You might start paying more for eggs, and HPAI is to blame

High-Path Avian Flu has been a thorn in the side of U.S. agriculture for more than two years now, but a recent uptick in cases can now be seen in egg prices.

USDA’s most recent Egg Markets Review shows that a dozen eggs sit around $4.01 per dozen, which is a high for the year. The Farm Bureau says they are seeing the trend, too. Economists there say the rise is largely because of higher demand and lower supplies.

Over the last month, HPAI has been confirmed in 56 commercial operations, 47 backyard flocks, and has forced the culling of more than 15 million birds.
